Bristol Wool Fair
This year I'm very excited to be blogging for Bristol Wool Fair as it looks to new heights this year. There's not only the usual traders you would expect at this event, selling their wares whether it's wool by the cart load or beautiful examples of fine craftsmanship, but also falconry displays, a Viking encampment, an auction and a Harvest Supper. Of interest to crafters may be several workshops which are running including dye your own yarn, soap making and colour work in crochet.
Tickets are £8 per day or £12 for all three days of the event. The harvest supper and workshops cost extra. Children under 16 go free with a paying adult.
But don't just take my word for it. Here's what the organisers have to say:
Plans for the 2015 Bristol Wool Fair are moving up a gear now. This year sees us at our new venue, Washing Pool Farm near Cribbs Causeway, with more to see and do, but with a reduction in ticket prices. There is even free parking!
Last year's favourites, the duck herding show, will be back again, but we also have a falconry display, and a Viking living history encampment too! Come and see nadelbinding, an ancient craft that predates knitting, and see the Viking crafts women at work. Of course, where there are Vikings there is generally a bit of fighting, so watch the fearsome warriors in action too. The 'kiddi vik' will allow youngsters to learn some basic Viking moves, and the wolf dogs and raven complete the spectacle of life as it was lived on the edge of the habitable world 1000 years ago.
There will be over 80 traders, offering hand made, unique materials and equipment for all your wool crafts needs, and plenty of stuff you don't realise you need until you see it! Our traders are all small scale craftspeople, many of whom usually sell online. Here is a chance to meet them, and to see and hold their beautiful wares. Treat yourself or a loved one to a special gift, or replenish your stash with gorgeous projects as autumn sets in.
New this year we have workshops, and an auction. Learn a new skill with our talented and inspirational tutors, buy or sell a spinning wheel, a loom, or whatever else appears under the hammer. Eat, drink and be merry with us, bring your knitting, spinning, family and friends, enjoy our talks and demonstrations, view our exhibitions, make a whole day of it, or even 3 days! Come early on the Sunday and visit the well established car boot sale that takes place on another part of the site. A car boot sale and a wool festival! That is something that cannot be missed!
Saturday night sees the Wool Fair Harvest supper, followed by entertainment. Bring knitting, crochet or spinning with you to the supper, so we can enjoy a yarn in every sense. Share a meal in happy company, enjoy the entertainment, and make some progress on your current project, all on one evening of traditional festivity.
The Wool Fair offers a good value family day out, as accompanied under 16s come in free. As always, it is our visitors who really contribute to the atmosphere and the excitement of the Wool Fair. We hope to welcome many of those who helped make last year's event such a success. This year we want to build on that success, establishing The Bristol Wool Fair as the major West Country event in the wool enthusiasts calendar.
